Instructions for writing assignments

Policy:
The purpose of writing practice is to improve your writing on your own, not to hand in 'perfect' assignments.

Thus, the following are prohibited.
* Use of ChatGPT and similar AI-based programs including apps for translation
* Asking other people to write or proof-read your assignments
* Copying someone else's work and quoting without indicating sources

  

Format:

Please use the type-in manuscript paper genkoo-yooshi for the Japanese text (MS Word) at the following URL.

            https://buna.yorku.ca/japanese/genko/type_yoko_genkou.docx

Length: one page (strictly observed)

Please submit English version of each assignment using a separate MS Word document.

 

Style

Fall Term: Use the polite form [V-ます N/Adj +です」
Winter Term: Use the plain form [V-(る)N+だ]

Your writing assignments (draft version) will be returned to you with the following colour codes depending on the errors or
suggested improvement. Please rewrite the draft and submit the final version for assessment.

Rewriting

You have two weeks to rewrite the colour-coded draft upon receiving it from the instructor.


Late submission

Late submission might be allowed for special circumstances with the instructor’s discretion - illness, accident, death in the family, etc.

Late submission could be subject to penalty (5% reduction per day).
