York won top prizes at the 2007 Ontario Japanese Speech Contest

York students did very well again at the 2007 Ontario Japanese Speech Contest, held at University of Toronto on March 10, 2007.
After the quadruple-crown victory last year, no achievement might have looked more impressive, but York students overall performed
extremely well with well-thought-out impressive speeches. Out of the ten entrants from York the following six won prizes. The grand
prize was won by a student at University of Waterloo this year.

Beginner
Ms. Jennifer Kim (jp1000): 3rd prize
Mr. Anthony Tran (jp1000): The 25th OJSC Prize

Intermediate
Ms. Vivienne Lu Xue (jp2000): 1st prize (Honourable Mention)
Ms. Lena Chae (jp3000): 2nd prize

Advanced
Mr. Paul Boyland (jp2700): 2nd prize

Open
Ms. Amy Yoshizaki (jp2000): 1st prize

I would like to thank Noriko Yabuki-Soh for acting as the chair of the organizing committee, Alison Devine helping as an MC, and Kiyoko
Toratani
coaching some of the students. My thanks also go to the York student volunteers (JISA members) for their assistance at the site.

Please join me in congratulating the students and my colleague on their excellent work and achievement.
